Under the JCPoA, the UN arms embargo on Iran expired in October 2020 and UN nuclear-related sanctions expired in October 2023. The EU, UK, and US impose autonomous sanctions on Iran related to human rights abuses and Iran’s nuclear programme. The EU and UK have blocking statutes to block the extra-territorial effects of some of the US’s Iran sanctions.
