Overview
US Sanctions
On 6 February 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order (EO) 14203, “Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court”. The order states the measures are in response to the ICC engaging in “illegitimate and baseless actions” against the US and Israel.
The order provides for visa restrictions and the blocking of property and interests of the person set out in the Annex to the order (which lists Karim Khan, Prosecutor of the ICC) as well as those that the Secretary of State (in consultation with the Treasury and Attorney General) determine satisfy specified criteria (see Current US Sanctions).
UN Sanctions
There are no UN sanctions on the ICC.
EU Sanctions
There are no EU sanctions on the ICC.
UK Sanctions
There are no UK sanctions on the ICC.
Current US Sanctions
Pursuant to EO 14203, the US imposed sanctions relating to the ICC.
The order provides for visa restrictions and the blocking of property and interests of the person set out in the Annex to the order (listing Karim Khan, Prosecutor of the ICC) and those that the Secretary of State (in consultation with the Treasury and Attorney General) determines:
- have directly engaged in any effort by the ICC to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute a protected person without consent of that person’s country of nationality
- have materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services to or in support of people in the above category
- to be owned or controlled by, or to have acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, any person whose property or interests in property are blocked pursuant to the order
