Overview

UN Sanctions

The UN created the Central African Republic Committee and imposed sanctions on the Central African Republic (CAR) in 2013, in response to the continuing deterioration of the security situation in the country, by UN Security Council Resolution 2127.

The sanctions comprised an arms embargo, which was supplemented on 28 January 2014 by targeted asset freezes and travel bans against people undermining the peace and stability of the CAR or violating the arms embargo.

EU Sanctions

The EU implemented all of the UN’s sanctions in 2014 by Council Decision 2013/798/CFSP and Council Regulation (EU) No 224/2014, which are still current (as amended).

UK Sanctions

The UK implements all UN sanctions concerning the CAR by The Central African Republic (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 (SI 2020/616).

US Sanctions

The US implemented UN sanctions in 2014 pursuant to EO 13667.

Current UN Sanctions
