Japan removes 16 Syrian entities from sanctions list

baona/Shutterstock.comJapan has delisted 16 Syrian entities, previously sanctioned under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act – press release. Japan has imposed sanctions on Syria since 2011. Following the collapse of the al-Assad regime in 2025, some sanctions were lifted. Japan said the current situation in Syria and Syria’s bilateral relations with Japan meant further sanctions could be lifted.
Those delisted include:
- Syrian government organisations including the Syrian defence and interior ministries, and its political security directory.
- Banks including the state-owned Commercial Bank of Syria.
- 5 state-owned oil and petroleum companies including the Syrian Petroleum Company.
