Austria publishes information on sanctions evasion arrests

Austria’s interior ministry has published information on arrests made following an investigation into an Austrian company that is said to have procured specialised industrial goods for the Russian arms industry.

The investigation found that the unnamed company was set up by a Belarussian national specifically to supply CNC machines and specialised metalworking tools to Russia. The export of these goods is subject to trade sanctions under the EU’s Regulation (EU) 833/2014 Russia sanctions regime. The company is said have used multiple international shipping companies to conceal the ultimate end user destination of the exports. The ultimate end user is said to be ROSTEC, a Russian state-owned arms manufacturer subject to EU sanctions. The managing director of the company, a Belarussian national, was arrested in May 2026.
