The US Treasury announced a ‘modernisation initiative’ in June (2026) to remove outdated sanctions listings from OFAC’s Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List and to review sanctions programs that no longer support national security. It announced the Reconsideration Portal for sanctioned people/entities to apply for delisting (see our coverage) to facilitate these objectives.

The US has delisted 84 people and entities as part of this initiative who are not considered US national security or foreign policy priorities including people who have died or who were sanctioned over 20 years ago - press release - & has resolved 18 duplicate entries by updating the listed entities’ identifying information.
