Job Description: Legal Researcher / Site Assistant

We seek an exceptionally able and enthusiastic assistant to work full time for at least a year on the Global Sanctions website, starting in late April / early May 2026. The individual will need to be dynamic, motivated, self-starting, hardworking, committed, enthusiastic, organised, flexible, and able to cope with challenging deadlines. Excellent legal research and clear drafting and communication skills are essential. Ideally, we seek someone with some experience of sanctions / export controls, website management, social media & AI.

This person will be responsible for managing the functionality of the website (in conjunction with web developers), the business development of the site and subscription service, maintaining relationships with international partners, and organising events and webinars on sanctions topics. They will sometimes also be responsible for identifying, researching, and producing first drafts of content, including drafting news stories on sanctions developments, domestic and international case law, changes to legislation and policy, and enforcement actions.

This role is a full-time, hybrid working position. You will need to have the right to work in the UK. This role may particularly appeal to someone wishing to become a barrister, join a law firm, or pursue a career in a website business or in sanctions compliance. You will gain excellent skills and knowledge in these areas.

Job Description

  • Provide administrative support on all areas of the website, including technical support for users.
  • Work with IT and web development teams to oversee the functioning and design of website (including dealing with technical problems as they arise). Experience with WordPress and general skills with websites & AI are desirable.
  • Manage business projects including pricing strategy, integration of new technology, and potential new features.
  • Develop and manage Global Sanctions’ social media presence to boost engagement.
  • Organise and attend events and webinars on sanctions topics, including logistics, promotion, and speaker coordination.
  • Provide demonstrations and free trials to prospective subscribers.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with international partners, including academic institutions, law firms, and governmental organisations.
  • Conduct legal research and produce clearly drafted, accurate summaries and analysis of sanctions-related developments for the website.
  • Research Global Sanctions developments using a wide range of websites, legal databases, news sites, LinkedIn, and other resources.
  • Draft and update summaries and document links for sanctions regimes and sanctioning states.
  • Format and upload content to Global Sanctions website using content management system.
  • Draft (in clear and neutral terms) stories on sanctions developments, including summarising judgments, changes to legislation, government guidance, new designations, and enforcement actions.

Key Skills

  • Hard-working, dynamic, self-starting, proactive.
  • Strong legal analysis and clear drafting and communication skills.
  • Website development and software skills. Experience using WordPress, Mailchimp, HubSpot and/or other comparable software tools desirable.
  • Strong customer services and/or sales skills preferable.
  • Knowledge of sanctions / export controls international law preferable, but not obligatory.
