Switzerland has removed Ismail Barhoum from its Hamas/PIJ sanctions list. Mr Barhoum was sanctioned by Switzerland in 2024 for being a member of the Hamas Political Bureau, the Hamas Shura Council, and a foundation which is said to have channelled funds for Hamas. Mr Barhoum is reportedly deceased. He remains subject to asset freezing sanctions in the EUUK, US and Australia.

Switzerland has also added 7 people linked to the RSF and SAF to its Sudan sanctions list. All 7 were sanctioned by the EU in January 2026 amid escalating violence in Sudan. Switzerland generally aligns with EU sanctions.

See our Switzerland pages for further information on its sanctions policies.
