The US has sanctioned 4 Venezuelan companies and 4 associated ships said to be involved in the Venezuelan ‘shadow fleet’ – vessels which use illicit practices to transport sanctioned oil. The companies are said to be linked to Venezuelan state-run oil company Petroleos de Venezuela, which the US designated in 2019 under EO 13850 and 13884. The targets were designated under EO 13850 for operating in the Venezuelan oil sector. They are:

  • The Nord Star (IMO 9323596), its owner Corniola Limited, and its operator Krape Myrtle Co Ltd.
  • The Rosalind aka Lunar Tide (IMO 9277735), and its registered owner Winky International Limited.
  • The Della (IMO 9227479) and its registered owner Aries Global Investment LTD.
  • The Valiant (IMO 9409247), which was designated as blocked property in which Aries Global Investment LTD has an interest.

As a result of the sanctions, the companies are now subject to a US asset freeze and transactions involving the blocked ships are now prohibited.
