Maya Lester KC will speak to Richard Nephew and Dina Esfandiary about sanctions on Iran – the JCPOA, the impact of the recent air strikes, and what Iran sanctions and sanctions relief might look like in the future. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Panellists

Richard Nephew is a senior researcher at Columbia University and an adjunct Bernstein Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.  He has also served as an appointee and civil servant in three U.S. government administrations, including as the Deputy Special Envoy for Iran, Principal Deputy Sanctions Coordinator at the State Department, and Director for Iran at the NSC.  He wrote a book on his thinking about sanctions policy and Iran called The Art of Sanctions.

Dina Esfandiary is the Middle East Geoeconomics Lead for Bloomberg Economics, based in Geneva. Previously, she worked at the International Crisis Group (ICG), the Harvard Kennedy School, at King’s College London and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Dina is the author of “New Order in the Gulf: the Rise of the UAE”, and co-author of “Triple-Axis: Iran’s Relations with Russia and China”. She holds a PhD from the War Studies department at King’s College London
