Russia has imposed travel ban sanctions on 30 Japanese journalists and academics – press release. Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the travel bans were imposed as countermeasures in response to Japanese sanctions on Russia. See our Japan pages for information on Japan’s sanctions on Russia under the  Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act 1949. The people now subject to a travel ban include a Japanese civil servant, journalists and editors of the Nikkei newspaper, and academics at several Japanese universities.

Russia imposes countermeasures including travel bans under its Federal Law No. 281-FZ 2006. See our Russia page for more information on its countermeasure sanctions regime.
