The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has responded to questions on sanctions in Myanmar/Burma raised by Baroness Nye (Labour) in the House of Lords. Baroness Nye asked:

  • How many Chinese companies have been sanctioned for supplying arms and equipment to the Burmese military.
  • What steps the FCDO has taken to cut off revenue, arms and equipment to the Burmese military.

Baroness Chapman, a government minister in the House of Lords responded saying:

  • The UK has enacted 19 sanctions packages on Myanmar since 2021.
  • The UK has sanctioned 25 individuals and 39 entities targeting the regime’s access to finance, arms and equipment, none of which is Chinese.
  • All potential designations will be kept under review but the UK Government does not speculate on future designations.
